Why hydro boost power brakes

I have hydro boost on my 99 cummins dodge but the brake power is way beter on my vacume power brake 81 chevy. Even blew a box seal on my dodge, dumped all the fluid and lost brakes too

Why do I see guys wanting to convert to hydro boost?

This is basically for towing, often when pulling trucks will lose their vacuum, thus = very limited braking, or not enough to stop you and your load. Hydro boost maintains braking under all conditions as long as the engine is running

A lot i have seen did it because they have a high powered engine that don't make enough vacuum.I would use something like this http://www.abspowerbrake.com/ehpm.html over a hydro booster.

Hydroboost provides considerably more stopping power over vacuum brakes. Even when the engine is off hydroboost still provides braking power. That is what that canister thing is on the booster assembly, an accumulator to provide boost when the engine is off. I converted my K10 from a vacuum to hydroboost brakes and increase in braking power was very noticeable.

1) With a more radical cam and low RPMs,while 4 wheelin',you have little to no vacuum

2) Diesel...makes no vacuum

3) More braking power over vacuum assist. It's the step between vacuum and air brakes

Because, quite simply, hydroboost is a superior setup to vacuum brakes.

Like Special-K says, since a Diesel is not throttled, there is no vacuum for a traditional power booster. Hydro-boost is not dependent on cam size either and the hydraulic assist doesn't "fall off" like a vacuum boosted source can.

I like the electric brake booster i posted,Its it own system has more psi then a vacuum system and holds enough to stop you over 20 times with the engine off.A lot of newer cars use a electric brake booster or hydro booster now some even have a electric power steering now.

The electric version is called Hydromax. Very common on medium duty trucks. Works great.

Ok, Ill play! 1969 Suburban C20. Whats the difference in cost between a Hydro boost and an Electric boost if your starting with a vacuum assist? Lets say I want to replace my front and rear drums with disc's. I already have the disc equipment and parts. Whats the cost diff. between the two boosts all in?

i have zero experience with the electronic system. But it can nearly all be assembled with oe parts. In that rig you could do a few simple mods to make all of the parts something available in every Napa. That seems like a cheaper more serviceable system to me

Whatever you do, do not google "Hydromax". I do not know what system that is.

There used to be an electric power assist called "power master". It was popular in station wagons and Grand Nationals. It was popular with the conversion crowd but I don't think they were as powerful as the hydraulic based hydroboost.

I googled (Hydromax Brakes) and got a lot of info. GM make a booster as well.

Another advantage of the electric brake boost system is that it can be hidden easier for those guys that want that "clean" look. The guy that built "Killer" has used these on the green truck he is building. The only thing showing is the billet filler cap for the reservoir.

My stuff is not that fancy, but if I found one in the pick-n-pull (Caddies often had them)I think I would grab it.
