Chasing the Drive Line Gremlin
Still chasing a vibration in the drive line. I have changed out the center carrier, improved not solved.
It revisiting the problem, there is a couple of areas that might be problematic. First the tail shaft on the transmission has quite a bit of play in it. Is this natural? Second, the rear u-joint as it bolts to the rear end has about 1/8" side play in the area between the u-joint caps and the tabs on the rear end. This seems to me that if installed favoring one side that this would create some vibration. Is this correct? The rear u-joint appears to fit correctly in the drive shaft. It was suggested in an earlier post to have the shaft balanced which I will do once I have eliminated other problems. Comments? Jim

Looks like your on the right track. There should be no play in any drive line (side to side anyway). The drive shaft spins at such a high rpm if its out of balance the least little bit, you'll feel it. More than likely you'll have to eliminate all the problems you listed before its fixed. Good luck.
