lowering a 4x4 k5...
i know, i know it sounds dumb, but i'd love to have an old school (80's-90's) K5 blazer for a daily (would look nice sitting next to my bagged suburban). in an ideal world i'd get a 2wd, but those are hard to find and generally more expensive.
a guy close has a really nice looking k5 4x4, but it sits a little for my liking and i know my wife would really hate it. now i believe the truck has lift kit on it, so if i have to remove it i wouldn't mind lowering it a little bit to close the fender gap. i would lose the bigger tires and maybe go with 20's and semi-meaty tread... are they any kits or ways to lower an older K5? I'm not sure what suspesion setup they run to begin with...just thinkin out loud here..

Lower than stock is just not realisitic. You will have clearence problems between the oil pan and the front axle.

Re: lowering a 4x4 k5...
fair enough, was worth a shot....my friends wrx sti (all wheel drive w/293whp) made think a low 4x4 would be sweet...apparently not the vehicle for it.

Re: lowering a 4x4 k5...
As mentioned, in stock form there isn't a lot of space above the front springs and steering components. Once lowered there would be issues.
The best way to lower it would be to convert it to a 2wd....

A 2wd cross member from a truck or suburban can be bolted in to get you down to the ground

Re: lowering a 4x4 k5...
defeats the purpose...might as well buy 2wd some day and not spend the money on getting donor truck or aftermarket crossmember...but if i get a 2wd then i'd bag it and want a drop member for laying out... o well neither of which probably happen..

Re: lowering a 4x4 k5...
A body drop is a huge huge job,Would be a lot easier to change it over to 2wd.

Re: lowering a 4x4 k5...
I converted mine to 2wd and sold all the old 4wd parts and it was almost a wash except for the front rebuild parts. Lot of work though.

Re: lowering a 4x4 k5...
You really should check out the 73-91 blazer and suburban forums. There are about 47 pages worth of reading and pics in one thread alone. Numerous ones have been converted. Happy reading.
