03 silverado 2500hd gauge problems
I have a 2003 silverado 2500hd 6.0 gas and i am having problems with the fuel gauge. I had a half of a tank and then when i went and started it the next time the fuel gauge didn't work. So i filled it with gas and after that it worked, then i was at about a half of a tank again and it quit working. So i filled it with gas but it didn't start working again. I know there were a lot of problems with the gauge clusters in these. Do you think that this is the problem or is it the sending unit or ground? In my gauge cluster my volts gauge sometimes isn't as bright as the other gauges and my PRNDL letters are dull and sometimes don't even show up. Should i just have the whole gauge cluster rebuilt or what is the best option?

Re: 03 silverado 2500hd gauge problems
Gauge failure is common and the sending unit failure is common.
There are 2 ways to diagnose the problem. The easiest will be with a scan tool. Plug it in and monitor the fuel level pid. If the tank is full, it should register close to 100%. You can also unplug the fuel sending unit and use a jumper wire to give the purple wire a path to ground. Watch the gauge as you do that. You can also check the cluster with a scan tool. You can perform a sweep of all the gauges. It will test all the stepper motors in the cluster. |
