64 66 PS Pump to Metric O-Ring Gear Box Hose
Adding power steering to 1964 K10, with 292 engine, using 64/66 power steering pump and would like to use a metric O-ring gear box, from 1983 K10 truck.
Is their a pressure hose that will connect the two different era components. Or do I need to use a older 70s gear box with double flare fittings? The photos of the PS set-up are not installed, just sitting their. FYI, the power steering gear box from the 1983 K10, has a lock to lock ratio of 3 3/8 turn or 1 3/4 turns center to full turn. To me this seem pretty quick. Thanks Les |

Re: 64 66 PS Pump to Metric O-Ring Gear Box Hose
When I did mine I went to the pick a pull junk yard and unscrewed the pressure fitting out of a 80's Chevy pickup power steering pump then put it in my 66 pump. In case you don't know be careful when you remove the fittings there's a spring behind them. I went to the parts store and bought power steering hose from a 85 C10.

Re: 64 66 PS Pump to Metric O-Ring Gear Box Hose
Mathew12, thanks for the information,
Just want to confirm, you can unscrew the bottom high pressure fitting from the origional 1964 to 66 power steering pump, shown in my photo above, and replace it with one from a metric o-ring type from the 80s. Thanks, Les |

Yes you can remove the pressure fitting in your pump and replace it with a Metric with O-ring fitting from a newer pump.

Re: 64 66 PS Pump to Metric O-Ring Gear Box Hose
Captain,
Thanks for confirming, that you can replace the high pressure fitting on older 64 to 66 PS pump with a metric one. Are the fitting threads the same on both pumps, or do I need to look for a specific year(s) for the same threads as the 64/66? Thanks also for all your help, in how best to add PS to my 1964 K10. Your PS adapter plate is working great too. |

Photos of the flare fitting "Flow Control Valve" (FCV) from original pump, and FCV from a newer 80's pump.
The upper valve in photos is the original one. Les |
