If you want to follow the letter of the law, call your local DMV or highway patroll. They will guide you in the correct direction.
If you just want to get it done, get some of the proper rivits, and close your garage door and don't tell anyone what you did.
I plan on the latter, but I didn't tell you that.

Call up the lisence office and ask about it. It is proably illegial to swap vin plates in Missouri because it could be done to make a stolen truck appear legal with a different vin and title.

illegal

yep called today, illegal in MO.
I'm thinking of just fixin' the 68, the frame isn't bent and i can get a "prior salvage" title. My wife, best friend, and all 3 dads (dad, stepdad, and father in law) seem to think that it will add character to the pickup. When you think of a salvage title you think - junk. when you see what i'm goin to make of the 68 it says it's come a long way. what do you guys think?

Drive the '68 with a salvage title....the title is just a piece of paper.......won't mean anything unless you go to sell it later

Salvage titles are cool on older vehicles and to be avoided only on a later model vehicle...unless ebfabman salvaged them...LOL! Yes...from the bone yard to the penthouse...always makes a great story!

it seems like there are a lot of older vehicles with salvage titles running around, and basically to me, it either means that 1). it was bought abandoned or at a police auction, or 2) it was assembled from the parts bin. usually its a goood thing.

Honestly, i would make more calls on the VIN tag myself....you are femoving a body part, and VIN is designed to identify a vehicle. The foundation of a vehicle is a frame. There are loop holes that most states actually have from my understanding. mention restoration rust repair, and proof of ownership when you are talking to them.
I would still just shut the garage door.

take a real good look at the frame on that. They don't take nearly as much impact as one would think. Before spending a penny on that truck, I would remove the front glip and maybe even the engine, and look REAL close at the frame rails.
