Re: Stepside vs Fleetside
Are shortbed fleetsides longer than shortbed stepsides?

Re: Stepside vs Fleetside
I don't hate step sides but the thing that bothers me the most is that gm took the cheap route and put the 55 bed on a 60-66 truck and did not match the bed to the truck. where as the fleetside bed flows with the body of the truck. the stepside bed is kind of like when some one puts a late model bed on a old truck.

Re: Stepside vs Fleetside
Didn't realize until recently I have a 63 chevy wrongbed. It appears someone put a step side on my fleet side. Guess it doesn't matter since I have had the truck for 30 years and never noticed before someone on the forums pointed it out. So I have a little of both.

Re: Stepside vs Fleetside
LOL... Fleet on the left side,,,, step on the right side?...
I own a fleet now,, but in truth I'm a step kinda person.. I just like the lines of the step better and I didnt have to deal with the wheel wells on the inside of the bed.. Its all a personal choice though.. I'm still in the market for a 64 to 66 step. |

Whip other it appears in this pics that it has a fleet-side bumper what makes people think it was a fleet originally?

I always thought the bumper was a little wide for the truck, I even bring red safety cones to car shows so no one hits their knee. But then again I didn't think I had a wrongbed until someone pointed out the fleet side trim. I think the step side has a more antique or old school look and the fleet side has faster and more modern lines. These trucks are just a couple years apart but the stepper looks much older. |

Re: Stepside vs Fleetside
That's my truck there, and that fleetside bed is a factory shortbed not a cut down long bed.

It could of been an option on my truck as my truck had the deluxe options. Just when I thought the truck was finally coming out its right back in the closet, guess I'll never be sure if its a wrongbed or not. |

Re: Stepside vs Fleetside
I love them both, I always like the steppers as a kid. I have a long fleet right now and I love the look of them slung low. Now a stepper long bed just looks wrong to me, just my .02

Re: Stepside vs Fleetside
I've always thought the stepside with the small back window looked older / more classic / meaner / more hotroddy. The fleetsides look more sleek / refined / newer - especially with the BBW.
. When I first got my 65 it was a dark blue fleetside with a white stripe down one side. I wanted a short stepper because I thought they looked like I mentioned above - mean and hotroddy. When I totalled my 65 in the early 80's, I built it back up a short stepside. I still like the old mean look. . But since I've got her back I've been nostalgiccally thinking of making her a fleetside again. Also, I'm finding the stepside has limitations in bed use. .

Re: Stepside vs Fleetside
I like the fleetside for longbeds, but for short beds I like the step side.
