Olive Green Aerosol
Anyone know if there's a brand of spray paint that closely matches the Olive Green from "72?

Re: Olive Green Aerosol
Most parts stores that mix paint will put your paint in a spray can around here.

Re: Olive Green Aerosol
Med or Dk Olive? I've used the med olive paint scratch aerosol. Not a lot of coverage and it taint cheap(!) Was a good match to factory original, but not exactly easy to work with. Part of it was my fault, working in a pretty hot garage, aerated before hitting the surface and made a fruzzy mess. But still, turned out ok. Personally, if you have something for someone to match to - I'd go that route.

Re: Olive Green Aerosol
Thanks all. I'll stop in at the paint shop and ask there.
If there's a way to fill and pressurize an aerosol can other than at a factory, I'd be very interested to see that. I'm guessing they'll match it by the pint or quart, and then put it through an HVLP gun myself.

Re: Olive Green Aerosol
medium Olive is one of the hardest colors to match. I have seen trucks with more silvery look shades to deeper like candy apple read. All were supposed to be paint mixed to factory spec. But yeah, go get it mixed. That's your best bet

Re: Olive Green Aerosol
My local Carquest makes spray bombs as well. I even took them an inner door panel to match my non factory color. It isn't a 100% match but it's damn close and 1000 times closer than any off the shelf spray bomb would've been.

Re: Olive Green Aerosol
EXACTLY. Did this with my whole interior. Panels, steer column, wheel, even the flatter version of the same color for my dash pad so to match my panels.. The spray tips here were nice.

Re: Olive Green Aerosol
I've had 3 cans made of med olive poly. All 3 were brighter than the original color. If I need any next time, I'm going to color match it to the inside of the glove box to see if it will more closely match the OE color.

Re: Olive Green Aerosol
I'll ask around for the spray cans. Not sure anyone around here does that. I only need enough to paint the heater box, and my tilt steer column.4
I also need to paint my after market dash pad and my door panels. My collision guy says that there's no way to get a proper job using aerosols.

I would not use a rattle can on large panels or the whole inside of the cab, but for the parts we are talking about it works fine. Did the pad, panels, column and wheel. It layed down perfect, and IMO turned out great. Make sure the can has that wide spray tip.

Re: Olive Green Aerosol
I have a medium olive green truck, and I used a company called Automotive Touchup. They have a color match guarantee and made good on that for me. The first two cans weren't quite right, but the last one I got is almost perfect.
