Heater Hose routing

I have a 1979 C10 with a 350, I have an easy way and a hard way to run my hoses. The easy way is to the radiator and to the water pump. Will this work?

Re: Heater Hose routing

They are supposed to go front of intake and radiator I don't believe you will get hot coolant from water pump I actually think that is a return on some older models

Re: Heater Hose routing

Your heater is fed from the intake manifold (5/8" nipple)then returns to either the water pump or the radiator.
If your radiator has provision for a 3/4" heater hose hook up, use that and plug the water pump hole with the proper size plug.

Re: Heater Hose routing

I do have the nipple on the radiator, I just do not have access to the port on the intake. you can see the front passenger port is blocked by my fuel line, and the driver side port is blocked by the radiator hose. I can raise the carb and make adjustments, and it looks like I will have to. That is why I wanted to check. thanks guys

Re: Heater Hose routing

Maybe something like this: http://www.globalindustrial.com/p/pl...FQ6HaQod3SkIpg installed on the driver's side pointed back toward the carb. Install the normal hose barb and run the hose between the thermostat housing and the carb.

Re: Heater Hose routing

The port in the radiator and intake manifold are the hot water supply to the heater, use only one. The water pump is suction and pulls the coolant from the heater. You should be good if you use the radiator as supply and water pump for return.

Not so sir. Coolant flows from radiator via lower hose and is pushed through the block and up through the heads to the intake manifold/thermostat. The coolant flows FROM THE INTAKE to the heater core thru 5/8" heater hose then back out thru a 3/4" heater hose to either the water pump or directly back to the radiator.
The COOLANT IN THE RADIATOR AND WATER PUMP IS ACTUALLY COLDER THAN THE COOLANT IN THE ENGINE/INTAKE

Going from water pump to heater and back to radiator will not get you any anything but headaches and frustration wondering why your cab isn't getting very warm in the winter.

I see your intake has 2 ports at the back just above the water jackets on the heads... get a 5/8" hose nipple with the proper size NPT thread to fit the one on the passengers side as well as two(2) 90* pre-formed 5/8" heater hose and a 5/8" heater hose union.
You can find the hose at Napa just make sure the short side is at 6-8" long to clear over your valve covers and the short end of the other onto the heater core, cut to length and join the 2 hoses together with the union.
And clamps....don't forget the clamps.

Re: Heater Hose routing

thanks for the ideas, I thought about using the ports in the back, but they are smaller than the front, will see how it goes. Will keep you posted

Thanks

Re: Heater Hose routing

I found a 1” spacer on ebay for pretty cheap Should I get one with a single square opening, or one with four (4) circles to match the bottom of the carb? Is there any difference?

Re: Heater Hose routing

It almost sounds like your best bet, or at least easiest, would be a 90 degree heater hose fitting on the passenger side.

Re: Heater Hose routing

I think I need to raise it up any way to help with my vacuum line anyways. Which one you guys think will be the best?

Re: Heater Hose routing

Because your intake isn't fully open, go with the 4 hole spacer.
