Hey everyone, I have a 76 gmc 1500 and i want to replace my throttle cable b/c my current cable is pretty stiff. What length cable do I need? Also is there one that's better?

Re: throttle cable question

I have never had to replace a throttle cable. The plastic sheath on mine is cracked into two pieces but it still works OK. Why not just get another cable from the junkyard? My guess is the auto parts stores might have a replacement cable but you might have to fiddle with the ends and cut it to length to get it to work right. I would stick with used OEM.

Re: throttle cable question

Well mine still works ok to but it's stiff as hell. I'm lookin for something a little easier to push to make the truck more responsive. I could find a junk yard cable that's the same age and stiffNess or just get a new one.

Re: throttle cable question

I changed mine out on my 87 when I first bought the truck. They come in two lengths and no matter which one ya get they are too long. Even after the replacement it is still a little stiff especially if it sits for a day or two. I can't say that one from a junk yard would be any better or worse. I would assume worse just because it has sat for some time and rusted in the sheathing, but I can't say for sure.
Making some assumptions about your truck (2wd and 350) it shows you need the 23.86 inch cable, which I believe is the shorter one. As I said, it isn't a perfect fit.
