'79 Fuel tank breathing

I am looking to remove the breather pipe that runs from the tank to the now-removed charcoal canister on the radiator panel. Providing I can find one and use a breather cap, will the pipe running into the filler neck be sufficient to stop vapour lock?

that is mostly for filling purposes, you still need a vent to outside the tank.
