Engine Size
What is the best way to confirm the size of the small block fitted in my truck?
I thought the casting number would do that and I was finally I able to get. That when I took the engine out today. The casting number is 3970010 with a GM 21 also visible, but from the information I can find its either a 302, 327 or a 350. Can I narrow it down futher? Look on the pad in front of the right cylinder head. Should have a series of numbers and letters. That is what will tell you what is started life as.

Checked for the number in front of the head this morning put after removing the paint it looks like the block has been machined as its perfectly smooth there with no numbers.
So I checked the head casting numbers which are 333882 which indicate a 350. If I combine that with the 3970010, which according to the latest book Ive consulted is a 350, then with the 2 together Im reasonably confident that I do have a 350. I guess I wont know for sure until I strip it. |
