49 COE Wrecker Anybody?

I am usually in the 67-72 forums, but saw this cool old dude and thought there might be some of you fans out there that would want to look, lust, drool, dream, whatever. Looks like a somewhat fair asking price too. But you guys know way more about the value of this era truck than me.

1949 Chevy COE wrecker project. Very restore-able historic vehicle worked from Tony's Garage in Seligman AZ on Route 66. The truck runs and shifts smooth. The truck has a vintage Holmes twin boom model 515C last produced in 1948. A unique feature of this boom is each mast can rotate to each side. It is mounted on a Holmes bed Cat, No. 502D. The truck has an in line 6 cylinder, four speed, and two speed rear end. The truck worked for a living and shows some wear, but can be restored or kept as a cool rat.

Wayne, that is a cool find. Thanks for sharing. Just reinforces my mantra...there are so many cool vehicles out there and I never have enough time or money.

Price is maybe inflated because of the Rt 66 connection.

A lot of money? Yeah, I guess so but if it's as nice as it looks, I say it's worth every dime. It's in Arizona, if you live in the East coast you don't understand what a car from this area can be like, we are talking possibly zero rust through!

I say that sucker is as big a treasure as he is making it out to be.

A.D. I agree, there might be some inflation due to Route 66, but I for one say "show me another one". For sale. Rt. 66 patina. Real Deal. Does not look rotted out.
Not to mention, that's the asking price. Probably get it for less. Can't never get $7,000 if you start out asking for $7,000.
I'm not a big fan of C.O.E.'s so to speak, but that dude would look cool slammed.
I am sure there are many guys on here who know right where another one is just like this one, in better shape, and for less money.

All I can say is if there is "anyone out there who ever in his lifetime wants one of these with real patina and solid, this might be your one chance to get it". Or maybe it's an overpriced P.O.S. ? Don't know. Only one way to find out. Just looks cool as heck to me.

This would be a perfect theme or accent piece for someones' collection / display. Sitting out front of the retro gas station on your property.

First time I went to Phoenix I was dumbfounded by how solid older vehicles were. Look in a truck bed that was all scratched up and there was no rust. Went to a Buick only salvage yard and the bodies in there were way better than what we try to restore back here. Taught me to look for as rust free as I can find.

I emailed the guy to get photos of the passenger side, suspiciously omitted. The front fender has been hit, I want to see if there is other damage. Does anyone in the Farmington area want to go look at it?
