Wheels wheels wheels

Hey everyone.

Anyone out there know anything about dually wheels? I have an '81 or '82 front suspension clip out of a c-30 dually. I want to run newer steel dually wheels on the front. I like these ones " see picture" because of the spoke shape and the 17" size but they say 2001-2010. I'm not married to them but don't think the older 16" wheels will fit and I know 16" won't fit on the back. Another question I have is about the stock rear end wheel studs. I plan to run singles as wide as I can in the rear without cutting into bed. Its a Dana 60 with 1/2" studs. The new front has 9/16", Is replacing the 1/2" studs with 9/16" studs a viable option?

Thanks!
Any help would be much appreciated!

Re: Wheels wheels wheels

I don't know for sure on those wheels, but as long as they have the 8 x 6.5" wheel stud pattern and the center hole is big enough, I don't see why they won't work. Why do you think 16" wheels won't work on your truck? Yes you can change the wheel studs to 9/16". You'll just have to ream or drill the holes a little larger.

Re: Wheels wheels wheels

Hi.
I'm not 100% sure about the 16" wheels not fitting. The front came with 16.5 wheels so 16" might fit up front. From what I read about the rear is 16" wheels will not clear the drums on the Dana 60 but this could be false info. I would like to stay hub centric. I didn't think finding wheels would be one of the hard parts about this build.

Re: Wheels wheels wheels

The 16" wheels will fit the front and I don't see why they wouldn't fit a Dana 60. I have 16" wheels on a '78 Dana 70 and they clear just fine.

Re: Wheels wheels wheels

This may or may not help you, but I had a 69 C-30 that I sold a few years back.
I had 1992 model 16" wheels that I got to put on it.
I don't remember what rear it had, but the rear inside wheel wouldn't fit over the brake drum. I ended up using 2" spacers front and rear.
One bonus, the 4" extra track width looked great.

Re: Wheels wheels wheels

The wheels pictured are 2008-10 only. 2001-2007 Classic DRW trucks have a 16"x6.5" wheel with a 4.60" hub bore and an 8-on-6.5" bolt circle, the truck uses 14MM studs with a clamp ring that uses unique 90 degree taper conical nuts. Every other conical nut GM has used on trucks is 60 degree taper (that I know of, 73-present). The pictured '08-'10 wheels are 17"x7" (might be 6.5", only held one once) also with a 4.60" hub bore and 8-on-6.5" bolt circle.

The front end you are using will have a 4.56" hub bore and yes, use 9/16" studs. It will also have the same clamp ring with 90 degree taper conical lug nuts.

That all being said, the newer wheels will bolt onto the older front hubs, I wouldn't worry about 40-thousandths difference in hub bore unless someone else has something important to share in that regard, I doubt it will throw the hub-centricity off too far. You'll just want to use the correct clamp rings and tapered lug nuts.

Your question about the rear axle...what wheels are you running in the rear, need to know to be able to address your wheel stud question.

EDIT: Which of your three copies of this thread are you reading/replying to, just this one?

EDIT #2: Bill, that C30 you had looks awesome.

Re: Wheels wheels wheels

Hi!
Yes from what I can tell those wheels came on 2008-10 but will fit 2001-10 and yes 4.60 bore. I agree that should work fine.

The reason I didn't think 16" wheels will fit in back is because I've read about people having issues with the wheel hitting the drum, turns out it was dually wheel out back that had the issues. I'm wanting to run "Black Rock single steelies 16"x8" 8on6.5" and only dually wheels on the front.

the rear studs are 1/2" and I'd like them to match the front. Captinfab has confirmed my feelings that it is more than doable and I just need the correct studs. I'm guessing if I run the newer wheels I can use the older rings with the 60 degree taper?

So sorry about the three different threads. I'm here on the 60-66 page the most.
