Are my axle tubes coming out??
Guy im cleaning up the front Corp 10 bolt on my K10 and see this clean metal section that looks like its pulling out of the center section.. Thing is its like that on the other side as well.. not quite as clean metal looking but there is a same size ring that is smooth. Are they supposed to look like this, what do you guys think??

Re: Are my axle tubes coming out??
They kinda look like they moved. How are they lining up with your spring perches and do they look goofy?
The right side looks older than the left. Is there any small tack weld anywhere around each tube?

I think ill go out and measure the peach spread and compare that to the hanger spread (front and back shackle). The shackle could move but the front is riveted to the frame and should have never moved. I don't see any welds. Would some pics form inside the tube help? Does anyone else's look like this? |

Re: Are my axle tubes coming out??
Do you have the diff cover off and carrier out? You could reach inside and see if it's pushed all the way in or out a bit. Those round things on the diff are the main plug welds that anchor the tube to the housing. I think that's the main holding part.
I don't know if the perches are the same distance in the back as they are in the front. The rear axle, by default from factory, is about 3" narrower than the front axle...so hard to compare very well. I could measure my front axle (and I just tried), but don't have a tape measure. I'll see when I get home tonight. But just glancing at it, mine does not show the shiny part as yours....

Re: Are my axle tubes coming out??
My measurement is 14" from the edge of the differential side to the spring perch (on the driver's side).

Re: Are my axle tubes coming out??
I think you are right. I have looked at a ton of pics on Google and I keep seeing the same look.

Re: Are my axle tubes coming out??
If you were able to remove the c-cip inside the carrier without banging the axle shaft in, I doubt it moved.
Edit: Sorry just realized this is a front with no C-clips |

Re: Are my axle tubes coming out??
There is no 'C' clip on a 10 bolt front axle. All the clips are at the end of the shaft in the hub.

Re: Are my axle tubes coming out??
These are the welds.
There were originally holes in these locations and the weld is "puddled" in the opening to attach the tubes. You can, if you like, run an addtional bead around the outside diameter of the tube at the center section. This is what I do for high performance applications. K

Re: Are my axle tubes coming out??
The spot in question looks just as rusty as the rest of it does.I think its just a mess up when they made it and it left the factory like that.

Otherwise there would be too much variation at the joint as a result of the dimensional tolerance in producing the tube. K

Re: Are my axle tubes coming out??
I know how axles are made i have helped shorten a few over the years for jeeps. The point i was making his one tube was turned down to far is why you see the bare spot on it.
