1964 C10 horn button removal - how to?

I have the simple round horn button and need to remove it to service the turn signal switch. I assume I can pry it off but don't want to break anything.

What is the best way to remove the horn button?

also, once it is off what type of puller do I need to remove the steering wheel?

thanks

You just have to pry off the horn button. Rummer mounted, but I'd pull the ground wire first. No use loosing some hearing and pissing off the neighbors if it gets stuck.

After you remove the nut you might be able to just wiggle off the steering wheel. If not you can make a wheel puller with some flatstock and threaded rod. Some of the autoparts store will lend you a puller around here.
The puller saves you a trip to the hospital for stitches when the steering wheel decides to let go.

Lots of cheap shop manuals on Ebay that can help you out on jobs like this. You'll need a 63 Truck Shop Manual and a 64 Truck Supplement.

Hey guys, I know this is an old thread but it's right up my alley. I need to fix the turn signal switch on my 62 and I don't have a manual yet. Once the wheel is off, isn't the turn signal right there? Or do you have to go further down? Thanks!

Thanks for the confirmation! The turn signal is loose and seems to be causing some electrical problems. Hoping to sort it all out tomorrow.

Jonz isn't the "switch" on a 62 down the column?

Yes, the switch is lower down on the column. I used the wrong word. I meant the turn signal mechanism that is inside the column.

Re: 1964 C10 horn button removal - how to?

now my horn honks when I turn the wheel hard in my driveway to get out. It doesn't honk when I drive and make turns, only when I turn the wheel when it is not moving when I'm getting out of a tight spot. Any hints?
