My 1970 suburban shifter is having trouble shifting back to park.

Anyone else have a problem putting shifter back into park. I lubed the shifter linkages under the hood and it doesn't seem any better. It seems like the pivot point inside the column up high by the shift lever is binding. Any ideas would be appreciated.

Spray some penetrating oil into the column where the shift lever goes in. Use the small tube and insert it between the lever and shift collar as much as you can. Then push the lever down toward the dash and pull it back up toward you a few times. This usually loosens it up and improves shifting into reverse and park. The lever has to be pulled back toward you to shift it into park. Let us know if that works....

Yup, this worked. I sprayed lubricant behind the pivot point of the shift lever and now it's so easy to shift! I am so happy not yo be fighting to shift gears anymore. Thanks!

No problem. Glad the redneck repair worked for you, I have used it a lot of times...

It's always good when a thread helps more than one person..... The WD-40 may not last long so if it starts getting sticky again try something with Teflon in it.
