49 s10 swap engine question

I am using a 92 s10 for my 49 P/U, if i decide to use the s10 v6 and trans, will i need to move the motor forward or backward, any cutting into firewall, i am trying to go simple as possible and not have to make motor mounts and relocate them.

Re: 49 s10 swap engine question

I did my 4.3 V6 4L60E by moving it 5" rearward, it would be through the radiator without moving it. when doing it again, I will move it 6", because I had to run an electric fan, the original engine fan was 1/2" from fitting.

no firewall cut needed on a 5" move and I dont think even 6" would need a cut. depending on where you put your body mounts, you may need a small tunnel for the trans.

Re: 49 s10 swap engine question

lots of pictures in my build thread. what we did was make a plate for the original mounts that moved the engine back 5" and then did the same for the trans, cutting the center and moving it back.

Re: 49 s10 swap engine question

I moved my 4.3 7" back and no firewall problems. Pictures are in my thread.
