aluminum drive shaft q's
I want to get rid of my 2 piece drive shaft and put in a newer style one piece aluminum drive shaft. Is it possible or has anyone done this. also do you have any sduggestions if this isnt possible?

many people have changed to a one piece shaft.....
i would not spend the money on aluminum...... steel would be best...IMO CHROME-MOLY....is what my pro-street truck as 5" diam. chewed up rear ends... spit out transmissions... never hurt the drive shaft...yet

Inland Empire in Southern Cali makes them out of aluminum. You're looking at about $600.00

I wouldn't do it on a LWB myself. Most drive shaft shops will send you away for asking for it. Anything over 6 foot long, and 'whipping' becomes an issue. Some shops will do it, but even then, most of them shouldn't be doing it.
There is nothing wrong with the old 2 pc set up. Get some quality u-joints and carrier bearing, and you'll be set for another 100,000 miles. |
