Great truck!! That is not a napco. This is a factory 4x4. Anytime you see a K in the serial number it stands for 4x4 after 1960. These trucks are very unusual. There is one for sale not very far from where I live I just have not had a chance to look at it. I may go look at it this weekend. If I do I will snap some pics to compare. --Clint

after alot of research and finding out where to look on this truck i came to the same conclusion that it is not a napco but when i first bought it i thought that it might be which is why i joined napco4x4.org.... im actually really glad it is a GM factory truck and now that i am finding out how rare these trucks really are i am thinking more and more about restoring it back to original!

yeah if you go look at the one by you i would definetly be interested in comparing!

oh i have a little bit on motorcylces and home built trailers and things like that but honestly the DMV in my home town is really good they really have never given me too much grief about anything in the past. i think it might help when i know everybody in there by first name lol

Hey guys
I have been reading your posts and glad to see the info posted here. I have one of these trucks sitting in the barn and have been doing a little work on it. Mine had a well drilling rig mounted on the back and they retired the truck and put the well rig on a newer chassis. I happened by and talked them out of the old beast. I got some fresh fuel in her and a new set of points and the engine took right off. (305V6) I am currently going through the brakes and have the front fenders off. I finally found another set of the wide fenders to replace the old ones. Mine has running boards like the 2 wheel drive 4000's. Cab has a flat floor (no hump). I pulled off the 8.25 x 20's and put on 9'00 x 20's. I will see if I can post a picture tomorrow.

Didn't see this one till after the big controversy. It is a a factory GMC KV4000 modified into some type of big foot vehicle (running boards and fenders extensions have been removed and wide single wheels and pickup bed added. Most all came with dual type wheels like in this factory literature.

Didn't see this one till after the big controversy. It is a a factory GMC KV4000 modified into some type of big foot vehicle (running boards and fenders extensions have been removed and wide single wheels and pickup bed added. Most all came with dual type wheels like in this factory literature.

thank you for that! yeah i am actually in the process of fitting with the DMV to get me a title right now. i want to know if i will be able to licence it before i choose a direction for the truck.

i will get you some more pics as soon as i can no they are not hooked up to anything just three 1"-1 1/2" under each one this truck must have had some over heating issues i think i can imagine why else a person would do that other than they look awesome in my opinion lol

Sweet truck ya got there! Wish I had one! The V6 looks like a 351 E version. GM also made a 401 V6, but I think that was only for the super large tanks. It could be a 305, but I am sure its a 351. Anyway good luck on the restoration project and keep us posted.

your vin shows it is a kv 4008, the literature you posted shows that as being a 175 inch wheelbase,
is that what it still is, or has the frame been bobbed and the springs moved?

How is this project coming ???

I used to have a 1965 GMC C-60 with the 305 V6. Good engine but they don't like too high RPMs. Pretty easy to work on also.

That dash panel is totally unlike any I have seen.

I would just lose the stepside bed if it were me and put on some sort of custom flatbed or whatever ....

Hello Kenbob87...I was absolutely glad I saw your pic surfing the web...because I too have recently found and purchased a vehicle in the same GMC family as yours...I don't have very many pics but I have few to show you the raw beauty of this truck...its a 1964 GMC 6500, its been sitting in a barn for over 40 years, so this explains the great condition the body is in...everything you see is original, only one owner! The previous owner son just wanted to get rid of the thing because he is selling his fathers property...it has busted pistons, so it currently doesn't run...it carries the 478 V6 engine...none of that matters to me because I am looking to a full custom job to this beautiful beast...so it can run untamed and free, like a grizzly bear in the wild!

Nice truck. The 6500 is a Rare model. I used to drive a '62 6500 back in the early-mid 70's, which also had a 478 V-6. Everything looks pretty much the same, 5-Speed-2-Speed, Air Brakes, Spoke Wheels, etc.

Sure would love to see it restored to original. It would be a big hit at the Truck Shows. You would most likely have the only one there. Stop over at "Heavy Haulers" here on the site to see some great pictures of these great old trucks.

Yeah Bill thanks...I haven't seen any(same make and model) on any websites...just old pics, no current owners...and that's part of why I love the truck...its an extinct species! If anyone has pics of current owners or just recent pics of this vehicle, please share them with me. I would love to bounce ideas off anyone who has one...

The 6500, made only from '62 to '66, is so rare that I have actually never seen another one since the one I drove, and I'm pretty much a truck nut, lol. I've also spent many hours in junk yards. After about 30 years, I finally saw some pictures of one, which I believe was on this site. Since then I have seen about a half dozen more. They are over at Heavy Haulers, but not real sure which thread just now. If I locate them, I'll let you know.

In the meantime, post your truck over there, if you would like. I know the boys there would really like to see it. We talk about 6500's now and then and some guys also remember them well. A member or two actually owns some.

Yeah...I was over in the Heavy Haulers forum checking out the cool pics...I saw some of the conversation between you and a couple other members about the 6500...some really cool pics! But I still haven't found any current pics of someone who owns one...I will post my truck over there to see if I can get some feedback or locate other owners...Thanks Bill!
