How do I rebuild a 1963 steering column?

My steering column is worn the hell out! I think the upper bearing is shot, the steering wheel says down and the turn signals does t work anymore, P.O. Had installed a universal turn Signal and re-wired the horn to the dash, the steering wheel wiggles and wobbles, it needs rebuild! Can anyone show me how on here? Or give me a list of things a need to start buying. I need to buy a shop book. I have a 3 on the tree steering column btw. Thanks

I would take it apart. Lay it all out in order to make it easier for reassembly. Possibly the shaft will be almost cut through at the lower bearing. This gives you an opportunity to change it to a collapsible type and maybe go to power steering too.

You know you will need bearings to start off. I used a bushing from Classic Industries for the bottom one but be careful as one of the diameters might be a couple thou too large. You will probably need the turn signal mechanism. It comes new and the old connector will plug into it.

As far as the shifter stuff goes and if you are getting correct information from me for the other stuff, I don't know for sure because it is based on experience working on a 66 column with a 4 sp on the floor.
