What hood latches did squares all come with?

Picked up an amazing hood this weekend at a swap meet here in Washington, I'm thinking its 73-76ish it doesn't have the typical hood pin latch system on it like the hood on my 78 right now does. But I can't find anything in any of the catalogs. How many different latch systems did they have?

Re: What hood latches did squares all come with?

I did a 73-74 grille swap on my 78 GMC, I bought the hood latch and striker plate on the hood as well thinking it was needed for the swap but my 78 hood latch and striker plate was the same as 73-74.

Two.
Pin type = non locking hood
hook type = locking hood
The locking hood was a standard option starting in 77

The locking hood has the inside hood release cable. There will be a square loop bolted on the hood.

Thanks guys! I guess the hood is newer than I had thought, It doesnt have the extra little body line on the front of the hood like my 78 currently does, its completely smooth which I thought came on the earlier models. But yes it has a square loop bolted to the hood.

It is an earlier hood if it doesn't have the raised section at the front. . It could be a 77. Or someone could have used the hood and wanted a locking hood and bolted that piece up.

Bringing this back up. Is it possible to add the inside hood release cable setup to a 78.

I am pretty sure to do this you need the whole bolt on piece off the upper core support of an inside hood release truck

We need someone that has a 77-80 truck with cab mounted release cable to take some pictures to show the difference.

Yes. You need a handful of parts to change it over. I have sold these packages, but the shipping is pricey with that long top bar.
