Rear shock mount help

I have a '70 that was converted from coil to leafs with a flip kit. Now I need to know the best way to mount my rear shocks. I have been told that I can use early corvette shocks. Anyone else done this. Should I just weld a bolt to the axle tube and bolt the shock there and use the stock shock mount on the frame? The lenght that I need is about the stock shock completely colapsed.
Thanks, Dennis
