Interior Color Change? Seeking Opinions
The carpet is faded, the seat is thread bare and the vinyl is cracking. I thought if I was going to do an interior color change now would be the time. I've always loved the charcoal interior but I have come to like the contrast of the burgundy. Also, I would be deviating from factory original.
The main concern I have of changing the color is the quality of the finished product. Since NOS is out of the question, I’m afraid the look and feel of painting the plastics will not look original and might not match the new carpet and upholstery. Does anyone make good quality original looking seat upholstery in charcoal? What do y’all think?

IDK about you, but I dyed my trim/plastics and I love them. Have you had a bad experience or bad product doing so? As for the carpet, I dyed mine as well. Mine was tan and is now black turned out GREAT. The seat, not so much. Buy a new cover if you're changing colors on that. - Zach

I went from the maroon color to grey. New carpet, recovered the headliner and then painted (dyed) all the plastic & vinyl. I used Bufords Vinyl & carpet dye. The seat was reupholstered, once I found a period correct seat.

It looks great. Where did you get the seat cover and is it holding up? What about the door panel inserts? Are you satisfied with the way the plastics turned out?

That's not a seat cover. It's my seat that got reupholstered. And he also did the door panel inserts. That is just the fabric glued to a piece of fiber board. When you remove it from the door panel, you can take the fabric off and put new fabric on it. The lower carpeted panels for the doors, I got those from LMC along with the aluminum trim for the dash & doors. As far as the plastics, they are holding up just fine, had no issues so far. It's been a little over a year now. |

The only thing about changing the color, was the seatbelts. I had to go with aftermarket belts for a color match. Unless your lucky to find a set of original black or charcoal.
When removing the bolts, they broke, so I had to drill them out and tap the holes. Got new bolts, it was a pain, but it's all good now. |

Here another pic, this was before I found a period correct seat. This seat was from an early 90's from the previous owner. And when I put the new carpet in, I also got new door sills. Updated the lighting with LED's and added 2 more courtesy lights under the dash, for a total of 3. Everything lights up good at night.
