'59 Fleetside "Tie-down" brackets?

Hey Guys-

On my '59 fleetside box, there are 6 small holes on each side (see picture of 2 of them). I seen a picture on here of another members 58-59 fleetside truck and the holes look like there were some type of "tie-down" brackets on the bed.

Is there anyone remanufacturing these "tie-downs", or where could I get a set? If they are unavailable, I may just fill (weld) them closed.

Any advice or help much appreciated.

Thanks
Tod

Re: '59 Fleetside "Tie-down" brackets?

anything attached to the outer sheetmetal would dent if ever needed
imagine a motorcycle falling over or a piano shifting in the bed; it'd suck in the whole bedside
bed tie downs should be attached to the bed pockets or floor

Re: '59 Fleetside "Tie-down" brackets?

I welded up 12 of those holes in my bed from the downs. All also required some shrinking, bumping, grinding, etc to get straight. The truck was my dump, camping and hunting rig for 25 years so they saw lots of use. This time around I am installing them to the inside at the stakes pockets and getting a removable bed cover.

Re: '59 Fleetside "Tie-down" brackets?

My 71 GMC has holes from where they had installed them plus about five different sets of holes in the top rails of the bed where they had bolted down camper shells or racks for hauling and one through both the inside and outside of the box where my uncle had drilled thought both to bolt down a home made tool box in the back corner of the box.

Three holes for each tie down. I think I have a total ot 56 holes that were drilled in the truck to weld up.

I'm not a fan of the tie down hooks that you fasten to the outside of the box.
