Very nice. Welcome to the K20 club. You will find a lot of people here with them.

Great place to be to get smart and make some friends.

Have fun with it. Any plans moving forward?

Take care,
Tom

Re: New to me k20 camper special

Hi Guys ,
Thanks for the welcome !
Yes, looking to swap a few stories and
Hopefully gain a little more knowledge of these trucks .
Gonna go thru the truck as $$ and time permits .
Would like to keep things as original as possible
with the exception of a mild lift , tires and exhaust .
Looking for some 9.75 GM steelies and dog dish caps to start .

A couple observations, if you don't mind.

Unless you have already decided, there are "which lift" threads that can be found with a search. FWIW, several years ago I put 2.5" Skyjacker Softride front springs on my K20 and they have been great, no problems, decent ride, and excellent quality. I would choose them again, though I have no experience with any others.

You mentioned 9.75 wheels which I believe are only available in 16.5" diameter -- and wide 16.5" tires are becoming much harder to find. You might be able to find what you want but there are fewer to pick from and it could get worse in time. Just something to keep in mind...

Re: New to me k20 camper special

I agree with the above comments on the 16.5s. Only Interco and STA tires are available and if you are OK with that go for it as the 16.5 rims are getting cheaper as people who actually put any miles on their truck realize the tire situation.

I ended up with Wheel Vintiques 8x16 rims for a bit more options. I got them from Summit as they had the best price and had them in stock. If you want they also have 10x16 if you really want the wide rim. Bonus is they take the stock caps if you have them

Here is mine with the 16x8 with 315/75/16 BFG KO2

Tdrcreyn4 do you have any pictures of your truck on this site? Your avatar caught my eye and would really like to see more. Sorry not trying to jack this thread.

Re: New to me k20 camper special

Hi guys,
Good call,on the wheel vintiques at 16"
I did find a set of 16.5's but like y'all have mentioned
tires in that size are limited at best.
Gonna add a few more pics of the truck and inside.

Re: New to me k20 camper special

Are the 16"s limited in availability like the 16.5"s? Im thinking down the road a ways. Next set of rims will probably have to be either 16" or 17" 8 lug steely. Would a 9" - 9.75" rim be tough to find that will still accept the hubcaps?

Anyway, wicked cool looking truck you scored there! Wish I lived closer to you guys that have all the cool old iron!

Thumbs up Re: New to me k20 camper special

Personally I like the look of a smaller wheel on these old school trucks .
17" and up just look a little to modern on the classic iron .

I does appear a handful of tire companies make an application for 16" wheels
Especially if you go to metric sizes .
BFG 315/75/16 appear to be currently available amongst other brands .
