Clean a built engine
I removed my engine and I'm looking for tips on cleaning and repainting the engine without dismantling it.
1. If I use a strong solvent do I have to worry about the intake manifold gasket, timing cover gasket or the valve cover gaskets? 2. There's some dirt that I can't remove with scrubbing, scrapping, grinding or soaking. Can I just leave these little bits and paint over them? 3. I'm using simple green on the upper half and Castrol super clean on the lower half and a gun brush to scrub the tight areas. any suggestions on cleaners or scrubbers that work well for cleaning? thanks a lot

Re: Clean a built engine
I'm sure they're some good info in the comments of this http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...g+engine+block
I searched engine cleaning. I'm not sure of an answe for 1 and 3 but for number 2 I would remove as much as possible and anyway, it'll only make problems down the road. Depends where it's at too and if you'll see it everyday when opening the hood.
