Re: Front suspension drop failure

Alright guys, I got my $8.00 Summit 1 ton springs in...Cut 1 full coil and an extra inch. It sits way too high still in the front. I drove it around after this picture was taken and it seemed to possibly settle a little. I didn't take any measurements, but I cant tonight if anyone wants.

I love the way it rides right now. It still has some bounce when you push on the bumper and does not ride or feel too stiff.

I'm going to cut another half coil when I get the motivation to take apart again.

Here is a pic.

Re: Front suspension drop failure

Did you take any measurments before you changed the springs?
Please keep us informed, I need to cut my springs.
Is it possible to get a wire size of your old springs so I can compare with the new ones.
These one ton springs may be too harsh of a ride, yes?

I didnt get any measurements before I dropped it. (

When you say wire size, do you mean diameter of coil?

The springs ride great. Not harsh at all. I did run Belltech Street Performance shocks. CPP 2" drop spindles up front too.

Re: Front suspension drop failure

I wouldn't be too quick to cut the coils again. I bet it drops lower with a bit more driving time.

Reread post #7 in this tread for the spring specs you're looking for.

Be conservative on the cutting.
I never cut more than 1-1/2 coils.
This is the advice to follow. Go past 1 1/2 coils cut and the end of the bottom coil progressively moves towards the outside of the spring pocket in the lower A arm. Once that end stops being the first point of contact in the spring pocket you will quickly go from being just a little too high to the inner fenders sitting on the tires.

FWIW, I cut a little too much and had some rubbing. I decided to replace with aftermarket 3" drop springs. Was a little higher but rubbing was worse because of reduced spring rate. It also handled worse than with the cut springs...seems too soft and wallowed on the road. Got some stockers, cut them just right, and now I'm happy.

The bar diameter of my stock springs was exactly 3/4"

Re: Front suspension drop failure

Got it Thanks
The Moog stock 1/2T looks like it is 0.78" or just a bit bigger than the stock springs you have

Re: Front suspension drop failure

Comparing side by side the coils are wound a little tighter too. (Spacing between each coil)

Re: Front suspension drop failure

1.5 coils cut. Rides great, front can still come down a little, but I think the new springs will settle over time. Once I put staggered 20's or staggered BFG Radials it will be perfect.

what other suspension components do you have installed on your truck. I like that height, mine is a little too low.

CPP drop spindles up front. CPP Flip Kit in the rear. No notch, and I used Belltech Street Performace shocks.
