Not sure if the gmc Paul but yes on the c channel. I put a pic of the kit I bought. It fits great but came with zero info and I don't wanna have to pull it all apart bc it's upside down :/

put mine in yesterday. and the flat side on the trans mount is level with the upper frame rail. I hope that is correct. My frame is completely bare, I have nothing to go my except memory

Now that I see a good picture of the mount you and the OP have I believe his is mounted correctly and that yours is mounted incorrectly.

So I've seen both answers, should the flat side be sitting flush with the top rail or drop down?

It definitely can't sit flush with the top rail. Your transmission tail housing would be pointing WAY high.
