Is the roof really sturdy enough to support the whole weight of the cab?

If you use a wide board all the way across it is. I also use a ratchet strap hooked to the core support as well.

If you just put a strap thru the door openings you will bend the doors. A neighbor tried this on a 87 K10 and messed up his doors pretty good.

I used a towing strap through the doors and secured it to the ends of a long bar (about 6 feet) suspended from the cherry picker.

i lifted my cab off the way Dean shows, and it works great. i had the doors off, but everything else was still on the cab (ac parts, steering etc)
