292 Removal with Trans Attached?

I'm working on pulling my engine (292) out and I'd like to leave the 4 speed attached. It doesn't look like the transmission will have clearance between the cross member and the firewall. Will the transmission have to come off the engine to get the engine out?

I left my tranny in the truck and pulled the motor only when I freshed mine up. To pull the tranny I took out the tranny cover and pulled it up and out through the floor with a engine hoist.

It will come out together with a three speed, not sure about a four speed though. It's much easier if the radiator support and grill are out of the way.

Re: 292 Removal with Trans Attached?

I managed to get them out together. I had to take the top cover off the transmission. I put a piece of cardboard over the gears to keep from getting anything in the transmission and they slid right out in one piece.

Now the real work begins. I spent 5hrs power washing, brushing and degreasing the chassis this afternoon. Not even close to clean yet.

It's only four bolts. Two on the outside and two under the plate cover.
