New here! 65 Stepside, help with parts

Hi there.
I'm new here, from the UK, bought a 65 stepside and waiting for it to get in a container and on the way to me.... I've made a post on the welcome area, but I'll leave some photos here as well.

As I'm in the UK I need to be sure on what parts to order, have a friend visiting the US in December and he can bring them over for me.

What I need is the push button lock cylinders for both doors, I've read about here and seen people got into trouble with them not working with the old handles / had to be modified. but I was just want to be sure I'll order all the parts I need as I'll only have one shot at this.

would I be right, I've looked in LMC trucks website, that I only need part #9 on this page? http://www.lmctruck.com/icatalog/cbe/full.aspx?Page=15

Also, I have a little girl and need to fit seatbelts, any recommendations? I've put a photo of the interior further down.

thanks all for advice.

Re: New here! 65 Stepside, help with parts

Cant help on the key part as I just ordered the complete handles. There is a post on the 67 to 72 side for a guy re doing the originals and making keys to fit. For the seat belts I used these guys with good results. I converted mine to three point harness to get the shoulder belts. Good looking truck.

Not sure what the problem is with your door lock(s) or if you just want a matching pair. If you just need a key, check my thread out here:

Re: New here! 65 Stepside, help with parts

Well, from what I can figure on the photos I have off the truck, looks like there's no key lock on the passenger side, just a push button. So I need the cylinder to be able to lock the doors.
so was thinking of ordering a pair so I have 1 key for both doors.

My question was what exact parts I need (if i got them right) as i only have one shot at ordering so a friend can bring it from the US to the UK

That's the way the truck was from new. You lock the passenger side door from the inside (with the door handle) There's not supposed to be an outside lock on that side. I assume you could add one if you wanted to, but there's no need.

Re: New here! 65 Stepside, help with parts

The reason why I need one is because the place where I will be parking the truck will have the driver side against a wall, so I have to come out the passenger side. (its fine for a UK car as driver is on the left side)

I'm pretty sure you can swap the handles from side to side to get the lock on the other side.

Re: New here! 65 Stepside, help with parts

Ok..that's good to know about that option, but would still like to get the option of locks on both doors. For when I park anywhere else where I can get out the drivers side..

So I guess if I just buy 1 lock kit it will just fit?
Sorry all the questions, difficult to figure out what I need when the truck isnt here

JP here are some pics of the door handle and what the push button looks like with and with out the lock. Pretty simple swap once the handle is removed.

Re: New here! 65 Stepside, help with parts

thanks PGSigns!

Can clearly see the differences there and does look pretty simple to change it.
One more question, the door handles, they are different right? a door handle with a lock is different to a door handle without lock?

only asking as I can see on that handle there's slots on it, guessing thats where the cylinder lock runs on, so a door handle without a pushbutton lock might not have those slots?

thanks for the help!

Re: New here! 65 Stepside, help with parts

Agree with PG Sign, handles are the same. I took a lock from a junked drivers' door, had it rekeyed at a locksmith and installed it in my passenger door in place of the orginal button. Now I can open the passenger door to put groceries in without having to run around to the drivers side to open it up.

Hope that helps. Locksmith charged $20 for the rekey.
Regards,
Steve

Re: New here! 65 Stepside, help with parts

Thanks for the help guys, I ended up ordering a 2 cyclinder kit from LMC website....
and got it sent to my friend in the US who's flying to the UK early December.
If I was to buy the kit here would be something like 150 dollars...!!!!
