Front disc replacements 72 C10

Hi all,

I have a 72 C10 with what i think are factory discs on front, the rotor measures about 11" and they have various numbers stamped on them. They are quite rusted and look in poor condition so i want to swap them out. Do i just by like for like and change out the rotors, callipers and hoses or do i change out the spindles too? Do i need drop spindles? I'm happy with the ride height. Here are some pics if anyone could identify these so i know what i have thats a good start...

Looks like stock rotors. They don't look that bad to me. You would just replace what was bad; rotors, calipers, or hoses. There is no need to change spindles unless one is damaged. With new rotors typically you would put new bearings in as well. Obviously since you have the vehicle, you are the best judge of condition, but I would put my money into other parts than those from what I can see.

Those are nice looking rotors. No way would I swap those, UNLESS the brakes are vibrating during braking.

For what you have, I would replace the hoses, get the rotors turned (not sure what you have in AU, but even our local "chain" stores like O'Reillys, autozone, etc can turn rotors), and put new bearings/race in them, new shoes and be done.

It also looks like your suspension components (ball joints/tie rods) look somewhat new, just make sure you grease them at least once a year and they should last a long time.

Agree with the above.

The nice thing about the stock rotors...the bottom of that groove in the middle of the braking surface corresponds to the minimum thickness allowed for use. You will find that measurement is stamped into the rotor hub as well. When that groove disappears, the rotor is worn out.

Bearings can last forever if maintained. Just a simple remove, clean, inspect, repack, install new seals may be all it requires in that area.

Re: Front disc replacements 72 C10

Thanks for the advice. Im definitely changing the flexible hoses as they seem quite degraded. when i tried to order a set i couldn't find any with the same end fitting as the original pictured below, does that matter? The ones i found listed for my truck have a round end instead??
