brakes went out while driving
i recently converted my 70 k5 to discs up front.....tonite i was driving home and the pedal went all the way to the floor. used the e-brake to get home. when i got home i found the banjo bolt on the driver side had been hitting the control arm and it tore the banjo bolt right out. i'm gonna probably need a new caliper and banjo bolt, but can i grind enough off the control arm and banjo head to prevent this from happening again?? luckily not much traffic on the way home any help appreciated - todd

Glad your alright.
what kinda conversion did you use? I'm sure members would want to look for similar sign of wear on their conversion. No brakes is scary. I had a beater beretta's brake line go out on the freeway. lucky it was standard. i just down shifted to slow down. lup |

i used the spindles (and out) of a 78 k10, everything was pretty easy except for the brake lines...matching the drum's hard lines to the discs flexible. got another question though... i plan on converting the rear to discs later, can i do without the proportioning valve, or should i use one of the adjustable ones. i would like to use the stock but any information is welcome

Good thing it didn't happen on the freeway. I would imaging the pucker factor would be pretty high on that one.

losing brakes at 55 mph is fun stuff, let me tell you...blew out a brake hose last year and of course I had to stop at an oncoming red light. i didn't have time to slow down so i blew the red light and cut across the highway, made it home alright cuz my truck is a 4 speed. then a week later, i was driving my beater Festiva and it blew a rear wheel cyl and I lost them, luckily I was used to it and it also was a standard shift, made it home ok. i hope that is all i have to deal with brakes going out.
