Wheel/tire advice pls
My 67 c10 is 6 lug from the factory. When I bought the truck, it came with 24 inch wheels and low profile tires which do not appeal to me. I would like something that looks original. My initial idea was to sell what is on it now and go "original". Problem is, I'm having problems finding "cheap" rims with 6 lug that look at least in the neighborhood of original.
I've found some cheap rims on CL that are from 80's tahoes, etc, but I'm thinking they would probably look silly on a 67 that is original in every other way. I really don't want to spend the money for the real thing, don't have the skill to convert it, and I'm afraid spacers will be dangerous and or make the wheels stick out too far. Opinions? |

Re: Wheel/tire advice pls
You could check out the 6 lug smoothie wheels. Can get 15" pretty cheap. Less than 100 each and get you a cool center cap too. Alot of places sell them and would look good and somewhat more original. Just an idea

Re: Wheel/tire advice pls
I see 6 lug 15" rally (rallye?) wheels on CL all the time, usually a pair here and there for 10-20 each. I don't care for the slots but painted black and with NO beauty ring they look decent (I personally do not like beauty rings on anything). There are tons of these used as spares so sometimes they are one at a time.
You should be able to easily trade your wheels at a tire/wheel dealer, they usually have a lot of stock rims sitting on the floor pretty cheap, I can't remember seeing chevy steel rims there though. Maybe the junkyard has a pile of Toyota steel spares stacked up somewhere? I am just fine with my cheapo aluminum wheels painted black, you can find them (plain aluminum no holes) for scrap price, paint them and put those center cap holders on there with poverty caps if that floats your boat and run something closer to stock while you look for cheap OEM type? got any pictures?

What do you think about smoothies on a 69? I'm looking for something simple and close to original.

Re: Wheel/tire advice pls
thanx for the replies. CL has been no help so far. I may end up with some smoothies.
I think I'm off to the junk yard before spending the money. Anyone know if other manufacturer 6 lug patterns will fit? thanx again, dave

MikeB69C10 they would look good on a 69 for sure. I found lots of good pictures of c10s with 15" smoothies before I got some for my 64 stepside I used to have

Re: Wheel/tire advice pls
You could always look for the full size spares of a newer chevy at the junkyard. They would most likely be 17x7.5 and are steel. They are the 6x5.5 bolt pattern which should be right for your truck

Re: Wheel/tire advice pls
My experience with late model wheels is that the center hole is too small to put on an early truck. I proved this with my wallet on my '69 with some Z-71 rims...
The square body 4x4 Rally wheels is the setup that is the most commonly available, and if you wait, you will find a set.
