1973-1987 Motor Mounts
I have a 1971 C10 that I will b e putting an Lq4 LS motor in. I have decided to use 1973-1987 c20 frame brackets and motor mounts along with some dirty dingo slider mounts for an LS engine.
Questions. I purchased the frame brackets and motor mounts from a local Pick a Part. I felt they were pretty expensive. The frame bracket which the clamb shell mount bolts to was cheap at $8 each. However the motor mounts which are outside metal with a rubber inside where $15 each. They rubber inside is shop and would need to be replaced. I see that Energy suspension makes a poly inner replacement for $25 on rock auto. However I also see Rocket Auto has the entire mount for $6.14 each with metal and new inner rubber DEA #A2292HD. Are they mounts for $6.14 good and strong as the orignal C20 mounts with a new energy suspension poly mount? If the pick apart will take back the $30 mounts I bought from them (doubt it), I would just buy the new mounts and save almost $30 after taxes and fees. Hope this makes sense. |

Wow that ridiculous return that junk to pull apart and run over to Autozone, ebay, amazon and buy the new mounts. Some people say the aftermarket replacements may not last as long as originals, but if they don't last, just buy the Energy inserts and swap them into the metal shells of the aftermarket mounts, and you'll still be saving money! However I doubt you'll kill those aftermarket replacements, LQ4 weighs less than a SBC.

Tried to return them today for credit at facility or cash back. Was asked if I purchase warranty and I said no, how does that effect a return? They advised all sales are final unless I purchased a warranty which was 30% of the sale. They did offer to give me a $2.00 core charge back for both. Told them no thanks.
Maybe I'm not used to going to junk yards but what a rip off it was an LKQ pick a part in Southern California. Oh well I'm out $30 |

Well I would buy the poly inserts seeing as they won't take them back fyi my 74 k5 with its 350 and 4spd the motor doesn't make crazy horsepower but enough for what it's in will destroy the cheap AutoZone motor mounts in roughly 6 months depending on how hard I am on it and I found out the hard way that aftermarket mechanical fuel pumps hang lower because my motor torqued and popped the head off the brand new pump the first time I laid into it. on a 4x4 the cross member is right under pump and my truck tends to crush the passenger side mount more than it rips the driver's side

Man, thats a new one for me. Anything to scam an extra buck out of somebody.
Might as well use those clams and put some energy suspension mounts in them. If new engine mounts follow the lead of new transmission mounts, the rubber is absolute garbage and you'll be doing poly inserts anyway. Might as well save the time and do it only once. Alex. |
