Finally Bought a C10!

So I've eye balled the 67-72 C10 for years and now I finally have one. It was in impulse buy at an auction, I don't know much about it, looks like the engine and tranny aren't original, and that it had been sitting behind the guy's building for about 15yrs. From what I can tell the only rust is surface rust, albeit some of the surface rust is pretty bad, but I can't find any rot/holes/etc. Anyway, I was hoping you guys could give me a few thoughts or what kind of questions I should be asking myself. I'd like to just make it a weekend cruiser. Thanks in advance!

Re: Finally Bought a C10!

Looks like is has some nice patina! Take a photo of the sticker on the glove box panel. Its called the SPID. Guys (and assuming some gals to) go crazy for that stuff. And pics are always great.

And Welcome to the board. This is a great resource of information on these trucks!

Yeah, unfortunately that sticker is gone. It's a 68 that came originally with a V8. I do have a clear title, so that is good lol.

Re: Finally Bought a C10!

Is it just me or is that driver's rear wheel sitting way too far forward in the bed wheel well? Can't see the passenger side straight on in the pics.

Re: Finally Bought a C10!

Interesting observation.......I did notice the rear axle is a 6 lug and the front axle is a 5 lug. Is this common or is it more likely someone swapped in a different rear axle?

Re: Finally Bought a C10!

Is it chopped shorter than a 6' bed? Kinda looks like it in the picture of the drivers side. Get a good buy on it?

No, they changed the front end. The truck would've been 6 lug from the factory.

I've worked on Jeeps most of my life, have plenty of time, have the tools, have an empty 3 car garage, and while I'm not afraid of putting some money into a project I don't want to basically buy every single part for this truck.

Re: Finally Bought a C10!

The tailgate looks real nice those are usually beat up bad. I don't think your too bad off, does it run and drive? the best thing to do for the odd axle situation is buy a set of "swap" axles that are a 5 lug axle for the 6 lug rear then just buy a couple of 71-72 drums then the change over will be complete.

Re: Finally Bought a C10!

I couldn't afford what you already have in it to buy it ,Most of the trucks I buy to rebuild are in the $500.00 to $1,000.00 range . nice truck good luck with it .

Re: Finally Bought a C10!

I bought mine in similar shape (a little nicer shape for the body) for $2000. I now have about $11k in mine alltogether. thats doing a the interior myself, stripped the paint and metal work myself, pulled and reinstalled the motor with my brother, bartered labor for the engine rebuild, etc. My guess is Id have abot 15K in it if I paid for everything. So:
the question is do you wanna spend that kinda money? or: if youre married, do you wanna stay that way?
