How do I paint the outer grill?

Sorry for no pics, my computer won't download my camera pics right now.

I picked up my outer grill from the metal polisher yesterday and it is stunning. I know that the 1972 outer grill was painted satin black around the headlights, what is the best (and easiest) way to mask that area off for paint?

Use thin masking tape 1/8" or 1/4" then regular to tape plastic or paper to cover larger areas!!

Need pictures of this grill!

Better yet, use 3M vinyl striper's tape, it seals much better than regular masking or painter's tape. I used to use it to mask the binding on my custom guitars.

Brings up a question though, if it has been polished ya better skuff the surface with some scotchbrite or fine sand paper?

yes and yes on the 3m striping tape - best way to make the edge you want and then mask back from that - and the scuff part. Personally, I'd mask first, scuff the area to be painted LIGHTLY with scotch brite, unmask, remask, then paint.

Re: How do I paint the outer grill?

I'd use 2" tape and cut the line with razor knife. Here is my GMC I redid the accent on in '01. Picture was about a month ago. The chrome was dull on the inner headlight doors so I painted them leaving the face chrome:

Yeah, I'd scuff that area before paint.

Re: How do I paint the outer grill?

I use Dupli-Color low gloss black. I'm wondering once you guys mask the edge with the striping tape how you follow that to mask beyond that?
