Leak on passenger side kick panels...

So when i bought the truck it had no leaks, rain wise anyway... I thought the antenna went bad due to almost no radio reception so i decided to pick up one from shucks. didn't really fix my static so it must be something else, but what im worried about now is the water leak that happens when it rains now. Theres a lip where the dash comes down and ive found water pooled there and can see it run down the kick panels. Before i started covering it up, i would find hat the floor was damp enough to make me cringe. does it sound like the antenna could be letting that much water in? there is a gasket there, albeit not a fantastic one, because the antenna doesn't really fit the curvature of the truck. or could it be something like the cowl vents? Any help is appreciated, thank you.

There's only 1 direct hole for water to get through from the antenna to inside, and/or the fresh air vents, and there are seams there. If the seams were sealed, the water from the antenna would run down the inner fender and to the ground, or through the antenna wire hole. You may have to remove the cowl and visually inspect the area and/or pour some water there (with the carpet pulled back of course!) to identify exactly where your leaks are occurring.

You should view some pictures of trucks without the sheetmetal on so you can get a better picture of where the seams are and how exactly water can get into the cab.

But could the water be coming from the hole that the antenna cord runs through? Just ruling out all possiblities before i take apart the wrong thing.

Yes, completely possible. Also, from what I understand there is not grommet available for that hole, so you'd have to come up with something to seal it yourself. I'm sure there's generic firewall pass-through gaskets that would fit the bill for that. Maybe do a search for something.

Alright ill have to be on the lookout for that, these new antennas dont fit these trucks well. Since its my DD I got fed up with the rain here in WA and siliconed the crap out of the antenna base. I know, horrible idea, but i just did it mainly to figure out if that works and if so ill find a more permanents fix. Ive put a towel up in the area where the antenna wire is, which is above the fresh air vent, so i dont think that the water is coming from there because that towl got wet. If water was coming from the vent would it blow upward? I wouldnt think so but...

Here's a picture showing the grommet the antenna cable passes through into the cab. If this is missing you will have a leak.

That was exactly my problem. Replaced the antenna forgot the grommet that is under the cowl piece. Got it fixed just a little while ago. Thanks fellas!

Hows the body seam under that cowl that runs up tho the windshield???? Did you put seam sealer on it??

Oh, did you reseal the rain gutter too?, water can run down the A pillar.

I didbt take anything apart besides the old antenna and i dumped water outside the truck just above the antenna and the gap just above the antenna is where watter would get in and leak down. Its supposed to drain out if the bottom of the truck but was draining through the antenna wire hole. Which is much bigger and looks punch out compared to what i think gm would have done. I fed the new antenna cord through and put a grommet in that hole and siliconed it for good measure. After i get home from school today ill take tha bag off the antenna and test my shade tree work.

If you have all the answers why did you post the question in the first place??

How do you explane the water in the lower inner lip of the dash if the water is comming thru the antenna hole? Usually it works its way thru the body seam that you cant see because its under the cowel and covered up by the glove box when looking under the dash, water can get thru the seam then drops down on the top of the glove box and runs down to the lip of the dash, or it just runs down the side of the kick panel to the dash.

You asked the question and i gave you two more likely places these trucks will leak, it dosn't much matter what you took apart. Good luck.

If a truck was radio delete from the factory, would there still be a hole for the antenna coax to run through? I replaced the cab on my truck and there was not a hole where Mike's pic shows. I have a home above the radio in the center of the cowl. I plan to put a broker in the hole for the coax to run thru.

i need the antenna grommet too but have had NO luck trying to find online. any part numbers? mine also has a hole rusted in the seam in the wiper cowl area too, so that will need to be patched up when i have the truck up and running -__-
