1989 Crewcab dually no start/wiring problems
I know there are some members on here that are extremely good at wiring but this is FAR from my strong point! This is actually my friend's truck but he isn't a member of this board and I have been over trying to help him get it going. When he purchased this truck it had been converted to carburetor. He got the correct motor and installed it. We can get the truck to crank over but there is no power to either side of the ECMB fuse, the t/l ctsy fuse, horn/dm and crank fuse. I am sure the t/l, and horn issue is something completely separate from the other issues.
There is one weatherpack plug that isn't attached to anything at the front right cylinder head. There are also two wires that have been cut that come up by the dipstick. Any insight on where these go or why those fuses don't have power would be much appreciated.

If it were me, I would pull the fuse box off the firewall and check the power supply headers behind it. then backpeddle the power side of it. Are they all in a line on the fuse box?

They actually are in 2 different rows. It had an antitheft switch on it in the cigarette lighter that we removed along with repairing the wiring the was cut to put it in. Truck will crank over.

Re: 1989 Crewcab dually no start/wiring problems
If I'm not mistaken, the two wires in the last picture are grounds that are supposed to bolt to the back of the passenger side head (with a ring terminal). That could very well be your problem.
Also, the connector in the 2nd picture is for the EGR vacuum solenoid. That would not cause a no-start situation. Where did your fuel pump relay go? I see the holes on the firewall where the bracket is supposed to be. Last edited by Brennan; 11-11-2015 at 11:05 AM. Reason: added info |

The relays are still connected. Just not bolted to the firewall. Kind of resting on the A/C box

The grounds didn't sort out my problems. Anyone else have any ideas?

Re: 1989 Crewcab dually no start/wiring problems
this doesn't answer your issue about the ECMB not receiving power- but I do know that as long as it isn't, you may have issues getting the truck to run. Pretty sure the fuel tank selector switch/fuel pumps/selector valve all rely on that. Was the truck using a mechanical fuel pump when it was switched to the carb? Or still using the electric pumps in the tanks?
