Need Some Help
Hey guys, I've been searching high and low for a part and have had no luck which brings me to here. My dads orange 72 Cheyenne survivor truck had the drivers side door latch go bad and the only way the door stays shut is to press down on the manual lock when you hold the door shut. Is there a way to fix this or do we need a new door latch? He's been putting up with this for over a year now and I'd like to get him a new latch for part of his Christmas present. If anyone can offer some assistance I would really appreciate the help.

Re: Need Some Help
I have a few latches but they never came orange . Someone has repainted the truck or it would be bare metal colored .

Re: Need Some Help
Sorry by latch I meant the piece that goes in the door, I'm pretty sure those were body color. The striker plate however was zinc coated or some sort of non color finish. My dad is the 2nd owner and the truck is all original including the paint

Re: Need Some Help
A pic of the part you are talking about would help.

Re: Need Some Help
They were a silver cad type color or no coating at all just a coated type bare metal. And yes your dad needs a door latch that would make a nice Christmas present for him. I always wanted for my parents to give me some cool type presents for my car [or a car] like a set of alloy heads or even a simple cam kit but no all I had to settle for was a great loving family that knew I was heavy into cars but didn't know enough to help me out that way.

Re: Need Some Help
Oh also enjoy every time you get to work on one of these with your dad even though you and he won't always agree and he will make you mad enough to spit, enjoy and set it to a fond memory that you can recall later. Jim

Re: Need Some Help
Thanks man, I really appreciate it. As far as the color/finish goes I could've sworn it had paint on it but I could be mistaken. I looked at some reference pictures I had of the truck and didn't see any of the door latch. I'll have my dad take a picture and confirm but I know the truck is unmolested, hopefully we didn't get one of the few trucks that someone at the factory decided to paint the door after the latch was in. I know these trucks aren't exactly the most consistent when it comes to original finishes.
