Anyone with experience of tahoe / yukon 3rd rows.
I'm looking for a couple of words of advice from anyone who has put Tahoe / Yukon 3rd row seats into the rear of a 73, 74 or 75 Blazer. I have the seats and I have the brackets courtesy of ebay.
Two questions on my mind at this point. 1. the seats look low and there is no rear footwell with these years. How much higher should i mount the brackets in ordere to make teh rear comfortable for passangers (Mostly kids but maybe adults on one hour max journeys). 2. As a function of raising the seats a little, I am considering creating a frame of Rectangular hollw steel bar to attach the brackets to, and bolting that frame to the bed of the Blazer with the existing five rear seat 1/2" bolts. That way I could unbolt all five if I really needed to maximize load capacity and take out the rear seats without brackets sticking up in the bed. Anyone done this? comments? thoughts? what to avoid? |

The only thing I could offer would be advice to keep the seat height the same. Going down the road, the rear seat passengers are already sitting up higher than the front. If you try to lift them up more it's going to exaggerate the "stadium seating" it's already got going on. That aside, I know someone that grafted one of those seats into a K5. He kept the seat height the same, although his was an 84 or 85 model. I can't remember if he used square or rectangular steel tubing, but I remember him telling me how he fabbed up a base to fit the seat and stock mounting spots in the tub. It looked good in the truck.

Thats a good point actually. rera bed is a good 5 inches higher than the base for the front seats. Maybe I hsould just raise the front of the rears with a bolt in bar and angle them back slightly to give more legroom but keep the backs as low as possible.

I had a 76 when I was a young guy, I rode in the back a once or twice when I let someone else drive. The flat floor is not uncomfortable as long as you have carpet. You sit in a kinda relaxed "indian-style" way. Kids won't know the difference.

Good stuff. Looking for anyone who's fabricated a bar for the front brackets to fit onto then and thats the method I'll use.

I actually used this company to put a 3rd row seat in my old Isuzu Trooper. I got one that folded up to provide luggage storage when not in use.
It came with a big flat iron piece of metal that bolted to the floorpan and then backing straps underneath. It was a LONG time ago but it looks like they are still in business! http://www.littlepassengerseats.com/chevrolet.html

I'm doing the same thing in my 72 K5. I have a 1x1 square frame that bolts down to the existing rear seat mounts. Yes its low and adults will have their knees up a little high. You can always adjust the height of the frame up till it's where you want it.... sorry I don't have any pics.
