bedsides built up to match doors?
Going with the roadster look with my blazer, has anyone got any pictures of the fab work of forming the buildup of the tops of beds sides of blazer's.
Interested with the corners at the rear of bedrails at top areas before the tailgate. thanks Donnie

Re: bedsides built up to match doors?
There is definitely a thread on this forum that shows how someone did it. They grafted in donor metal from the tops of a few doors onto the bed rails to mimick the contours of the actual door top. Someone here will be able to point you in the right direction.

Yea, cant decide if I want to build up the bed and tailgate or chop off the top of door's.
Maybe someone can post a link, I know I couldn't find anything doing a search.

My last project, I took a 4-door 1928 Dodge and turned it into a 2-door. I ended up mocking up the car in Microsoft paint. It really worked well. |

Sounds like something to think about. I'm going to visit a better fab man than myself tomorrow maybe the 2 of us can put something together in mock up.

Re: bedsides built up to match doors?
The thread I was thinking of was started by a guy on here who built and installed a totally custom, fully retractable convertable roof on his 2 wheel drive Blazer. TONS of trick fabrication went into it to make it all work, including raising the bed rails. So do a search on convertable tops and it will probably come up.

Building the doors would be easier to go back if you ever decide you want a top again.

Re: bedsides built up to match doors?
There is one on craigslist right now with the doors cut down to the bedsides.
http://seattle.craigslist.org/oly/cto/5302384852.html There is/was a board member who made upholstered bed rail covers that tapered from the door down to the rear - you'll need to do a search for that.

Re: bedsides built up to match doors?
I was scared to alter either so I added fiberglass planks that have hidden fasteners. They are painted body color and could be removed if someone wanted to put the top on.

Re: bedsides built up to match doors?
I still vote cutting the doors just because of the magnitude of work involved and how permanate it would be. The blazer above looks pretty good and you could always get a second set of doors and paint them at the same time so you have both options. It's your ride though so it's all up to you.

Re: bedsides built up to match doors?
Going for the 2 seat roadster. a Homemade or fiberglass tonneau cover would work without modifying doors or quarter panels.

Re: bedsides built up to match doors?
Zammer is the man, and the fab work on his custom convertable is the sh*t.
