Re: What year is my truck?

Here is an excellent representation of a '60 1/2 ton 4X4. It is also great reference for correct grill, hood, emblems and hubcaps. Great job on this one, looks like it just rolled off a Chevy dealership lot.

Re: What year is my truck?

I like the term "REPRESENTATION" as "restored" seems to be tossed around so easily.

Ok, here comes one of the stupidest questions ever, how do I shift into 4 wheel drive?

I know I need to first turn the front hubs but what does the shifter do?

When I turn the hub actuator, which arrow should the bar be pointing towards?

An Owners Manual might come in handy.

Re: What year is my truck?

My ft hubs were chewed up pretty good so when i rebuilt the knuckles i marked in red (locked) and green in (un-lock) I would put the front axle on jack stands and find out when the hubs are locked and unlocked so you will know for sure. shifter is like aero posted.

Re: What year is my truck?

I took a look at both my 61 2wheel drives, both had the assembly plant # and the last digits of the vin , but neither had a "1" stamped in front of the assembly plant letter.
my 63 4 wheel drive was also this way, the door vin matches the frame, but no "3", or "K" (for 4X4) to denote the year of the frame , or weather it is a 4X4 or not. The vin on the door frame does have the "K"

my 65 and 66 2 wheel drives both have the year digit stamped in front of the assembly plant letter to show what year the frame is.

so it seems that there is no real way to find out what year frame you do have from the vin stamp.

your truck definitely had a big restoration done on it , and judging by how it looks now it was probably 20-30 years ago.

another telltale sign is the fact that the interior is painted blue, and is not the factory silver.

I do remember seeing it parked in front of a house a couple blocks from that guys place before he got it in the early 2000's-2002-2004 I think, and it looked pretty much the same as it does now minus the hubcaps.

With an original truck, does the engine number match the cab and chassis number?

Re: What year is my truck?

I picked up a camper shell today but I'm not sure if I like it or not.

I did a big window cab swap on the 4x4 since the other was rotted to the core.

Nearly went for that one myself (local). Looks to be in fine shape too! Great score, like it or not.

Re: What year is my truck?

Well thats a bummer. My 4x4 is a 60 truck and I have 60 and 61 hood emblems but I like the 61 style hood and 1960 emblems better. I think I have to stay true to the year and not mis-match.

Re: What year is my truck?

what is your final plan? only if you are doing a 100 point style restoration do you need to use the correct emblems...
if you are just building what you like then go with it-
to clarify the red hood is a 60, the white fenders have 60 emblems, the turquoise thruck has a 61 hood w/ 61 hood emblems and a gmc grille
