Where and how to find parts?
I just bought a 1947 Loadmaster Chevy truck. It's belived to a 5 ton but I think it's actually a 3 ton because of the weight rating. I can only get so much information from the vin plate because it has been painted over and scraped up by a previous owner, so I won't know until the title gets sorted out or I find a place to run the vin.
Where would I find wheel cylinders or rebuild kits and those other complex components for a truck of that weight class? I don't want to stray to far from factory original but I also don't want to take it in a direction that's going to make it impossible for me to finish. It runs and seems like it drives but without brakes and a decent sized area to take it for a spin that could be another story. Any helpful hints or knowledge about these truck would be appreciated because I never had a project this old or big. Thanks. |

Look over on stovebolt.com they have a section called big bolt. It's all about the 1.5 ton and up trucks. The guys are very informative.

Re: Where and how to find parts?
I would have the OE cylinders resleeved, master also. Apple hydraulics in Calverton NY can do them with a stainless steel sleeve, you'll be done for life. These big guys usually do a lot of sitting, which equals brake failure.

Thanks. I'll definitely have to check with them about the brakes. I'm in pa but I've driven farther for less.

You could probably ship them to them.
