Steering Column Removal
After I have the steering wheel off of my '59 GMC Fleetside , how do I get the column itself out . All the brackets and clamps are loose or removed yet it wont break free from the steering box . Am I missing something ? Bob.

You have to try some penetrating oil. Let it soak for a few hours then repeat the process. Sounds like the splines are rusted on.

After the soaking it like Rico mentions, try some wiggling and convincing.
Do not beat on it with a hammer. That could damage the steering gear and column

Steering Removal
In your post you mention using penetrating oil and letting it soak , question is all I have is the frame itself with the steering column , steering wheel and the cab etc is all removed . Where is it I'm supposed to place the oil in order to get the shaft free of the steering box ? Thanx , Bob.

Fleetside, I think the column tube is simply pressed into the steering gear housing. The penetrating oil should go at this joint.
