1960 Options - how to tell what it shipped with
I was hoping there may be a way to find out what a 60 chevy may have shipped with when new, is there a buck tag or something similar to tags on later trucks and cars on the older trucks? I'd like to find out more info on mine. It has a deluxe heater, windshield washers (setup long gone, but has button in knob), etc. I didnt know about the deluxe heaters until reading here last night - great forum!
Also, any ideas on production numbers? Mine is a shortbox stepside 4x4, curious how many were made. Thanks! |

I don't know of any way to find out the original equipment. The first year for SPID tags was 1966.
Somewhere here on the forum there is a thread with production numbers. Edit: here is one thread. http://www.67-72chevytrucks.com/vboa...uction+numbers

sometimes you can find a build sheet in the seat springs, but it is rare, they usually are brittle and have fallen apart by now.
the other day I was browsing at the local yard, he has about 60 60-66's, I started checking all the seats, 4 trucks still had the sheet, and all 4 were only partially there. another interesting thing, all 4 were fremont, ca trucks, 3 chevs and one gmc...

Sounds like a nice truck ! Heres a little info on what was available specific to the 4x4s in 1960. This first group of pictures is from the 1960 Chevrolet Data book. It lists the Standard features and optional equipment available when ordering a new truck from the factory. Then there were all the Chevy "Dealer installed accessories" .

Re: 1960 Options - how to tell what it shipped with
To answer your original question , I do not think you will find a build sheet prior to 1964. There might be a sheet similar to a broadcast sheet but finding those are quite rare. Finding the window sticker or shipping invoice is rare also, they might have been put in with the owners manual but were usually left at the dealership when the truck was unloaded , heres a few samples of those for 1960 trucks.

Quote:
I looked at all the production numbers linked off of those pages, and saw the 65 and newer k10's were very low production, hovering around 1000 units depending whether fleetside or stepside. Since we do not have numbers, and educated guesses how many k10's were made in 1960? That was the first year Chevy brought the 4x4 in to their facilities, no? I've read that prior to 60 all 4x4's were shipped out to Napco, is this true? I never would have guessed 4x4 production was that low in the 60's chevy pickups.... |
