71-only grille surround had a black perimeter stripe whereas 72 did not. Not a great indicator though as they are interchangeable and the stripe usually wears off quite a bit from the 71 grille surrounds. All aftermarket are 72-type with no black perimeter striping on the grille surround. Other than the VIN (the metal one on the drivers side door opening - and, all that REALLY matters...), the door things mentioned above (screw, panels) and mirror are the best indicators. But, doors are interchangeable also... Mirrors can change too, but when going from 71 to 72 style, I believe some holes are left in the 71 cab (good clue). VIN tags are not (or, at least, SHOULD not be). When you pick it up - I'd make sure the VINS all match (SPID (fake or not), metal tag, and frame (not as important to me)) - just so you can be comfortable or, at least, aware of the originality.
