It is just the pits!! @ pitstop in houston, texas
90 suburban with 5.7 tbi/700r4 transmission was in the shop for a transmission mount, now the truck acts as if it doesn’t want to pick up speed. Of course I took it back to the shop that did the work and now they’re trying to charge me to diagnose a problem it didn’t have until they starting “fixing it”.
The shop told me that it was probably the timing or something, but if I’m right timing will have some sort of indication (it starts right up every time, just idles slightly rougher at lights/stop signs) does it sound like a timing issue? No timing tab on engine! It also now takes a minute to engage into gear in order to move. Shifted perfect before. They claimed they used two gallons of the transmission fluid I brought in. They actually changed the oil filter but did not change the oil. Someone suggested it may be a bad fuel filter, but I didn’t have this problem before the shop. Scary thing is the other day I took off out of an intersection and it actually died in the road, started right back up but scary as hell to say the least. While driving it feels like it is a manual that needs to be shifted, if that makes sense. I just need everything back to normal and running well, before Jan 2016 because it is my main transportation right now. Many thanks for your advice/experience. It is greatly appreciated. Things I did recently: Flywheel_9/2015 Starter Drivebelt PCV Valve Air Filter Fuel Filter_2/2015 Rotor Distributor Cap Spark Plug Wires Spark Plugs ICV Valve TV Cable A few other small things here and there, don’t have my list so I’m playing off of memory. I hope I don't get anymore surprises from their "work"

Sounds like they did something to the throttle valve cable and/or shifter adjustment to me...

Quadra jet with electric choke? Check to make sure the wire is secure. Mine was bumped off a while back due to a crummy connector and it ran terribly especially when warmed up.

Re: It is just the pits!! @ pitstop in houston, texas
I have those (sand b@stards) not racist on my phone basically admitting to screwing up my wiring by the fusebox, and the trans mount doesn't look right to me. That's no more than I deserve for dealing with them.
Anyone know of any reputable shops in the Houston area preferably close to Fort Bend to get a repair estimate and the work done right? Thanks. I will be filing a small claims case against them, for the original cost of repair. The cost of tows, and to get the work actually done. The truck stopped the other day on my way to a welder shop in an intersection. Thank God for good police officers, I thought I was going to get a ticket for obstruction but he actually got out of his Tahoe and pushed me of the street and waited with me until the tow arrived.

I actually think it was only the oil pressure switch now, because when I disconnect the fuel pump relay it cuts off immediately. Going to buy a cheap one and see what happens.

Re: It is just the pits!! @ pitstop in houston, texas
I think you need to find a real GM mechanic. Sometimes it pays to spend more at a Chevy dealer to get it done right the first time, or at least have some recourse if it's not. The oil filter-only change is your first clue to runaway runaway from that first shop.
I work part-time at a repair shop specializing in 50s-70s cars. We see quite a few guys who bring their cars to us after Pep Boys or some low budget shop messed up more than they repaired.

Sounds like your transmission cable needs adjustment. (700R4 has no modulator) I have done this before, but its been quite a few years. I would suggest googling 700R4 cable adjustment. It's easy and quick. I do recall sliding a stop on the cable back, than reinstalling. You than go into the truck and depress the gas pedal to the floor (with engine off), and the cable automatically adjusts itself. This should correct your "not shifting" problem. Not sure about the engine stalling. May have to plug into a code reader.
