Wood Bed Restoration
Hey all, i just thought i'd post some pics of my "current" restoration. The factory wood bed is getting its long overdue turn. I haven't said anything about this, so heres the story. For my selection of wood i chose white oak. I bought i think it was 8 boards and with a little help from my uncle, got the wood planed, grooves cut and sanded down to a smooth finish. I also decided not to stain the wood. I like the natural look of it. However, the urethane im using did tint it a little bit. I am using System Three's Marine Grade Urethane. I put on 1 coat on the underside and 3 for the topside. For the rest of the underside and inner walls and wheel wells im using Herculiner (great stuff but tricky to work with). My project has come to a hault till next week since my uncle has left for skiing so im getting anxious to finish it up. Anyway here are a few pics of the wood. Im sure there will be plenty more to follow!
Aaron Here is a board just to show the beauty:

Looks as though all that bubble wrap & cardboard I used in packaging it worked well protecting it, always happy to see our sheetmetal arrive undamaged glad we could help.
Woods looking good!!!! You can always expect the polyurethanes and varnish to deepen the tint of the wood when you apply it, does wonders for making the grain in wood show. Be sure to send finished photos so we can add you to the web site " Truck Photos Page" http://www.gmcpauls.com/photos.htm GMCPaul |

Sorry to but in on your post, but has anyone ever seen a bed with the wood stained a dark color? Like maybe the color of the stickers on the lower molding, or the door panel inserts on a '70? I've never seen it done, but was thinking of doing mine this color. Post some pics if you have them.
Your wood looks great, btw. Should last forever, too!

HuggerCST,
I actually have the stain that matches the woodgrain and will be doing my bed soon. I will take pics and let you know how it turns out. Shawn

jorgensensc- Yea, that would be great if you could send me some pics. What color is the stain?
67fleetsidedream- This will be more of a show truck, so I don't plan to haul anything in the bed.

HuggerCST,
I think it was walnut, but I'll have to check and let you know. 67fleetsidedream, I use my truck alot, that is why I haven't done the bed yet, but I think if I use a bed mat when I haul things it will be O.K.
